Sports Premium

 

Sport premium funding is provided by the government directly to primary head teachers aimed at improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. A summary of the aims and key expenditure is outlined below:

• Ensuring high quality teaching for all through the hiring of specialist sports coaches. In addition to quality provision, this will also develop teachers’ knowledge and expertise.
• Throughout the year, all children will receive lessons in street dance and games delivered by specialist coaches.
• Teachers will take part in lessons for their own professional development.
• MPL has adopted a daily run initiative which encourages personal fitness and wellbeing throughout the whole school. Children and staff walk/ run continuously for 15 minutes every day. We have built a purpose made all weather track to ensure that this happens all year round. 

At MPL we are committed to ensuring that our allocation of the Primary PE and Sport Premium leaves a lasting, positive legacy. We strategically direct our funding toward building internal capacity, upskilling staff, and embedding physically active routines into our school culture so that every improvement is sustained.

Here is how we ensure the long-term sustainability of our PE and sport provision:

• Curriculum Development and Resourcing

  We have established a well-sequenced, progressive PE curriculum alongside robust assessment frameworks. By investing in durable, high-quality sports equipment and structured schemes of work, we ensure that the foundation of our physical education offering remains strong, accessible, and repeatable year after year.

• Embedding Daily Active Habits

  Physical activity is integrated throughout the school day, not just within timetabled PE lessons. Through active playtimes, playground leader programmes, OPAL and movement breaks, we foster a healthy school culture that relies on established routines rather than continuous financial investment.

• Active Partnerships

  We establish strong links with local sports partnerships. These relationships provide clear pathways for pupils to pursue sport outside of school hours and secure ongoing access to inter-school competitions .

• Developing Pupil Leadership

  We empower our pupils as Playground Leaders. Training older students to facilitate active play, manage equipment, and lead active games for younger peers builds a self-sustaining cycle of peer leadership and positive engagement across the playground.

By focusing on structured planning, active habits, upskilling staff and community links, the positive outcomes achieved through the PE and Sport Premium will benefit current pupils and future generations to come.
